WARNING: DO NOT PURCHASE SAMSUNG EVER!!! Jun 20, 2010 I'd give this a -5 if I could. I had the same problem with the static as so many other people have had. I called Samsung, and they wanted to charge me $80 to fix a problem with a defective product model. Seriously?! I'm seriously never buying Samsung ever again. I suggest everyone here to do the same. You have been warned...
Superior sound, price, design, minus 1 star for inadequate hdmi handshake May 28, 2010 I love this unit (bought it at Best Buy open box section about a year ago, no remote). After connecting everything and having problems with the handshake between xbox and as720s (sound dropped out occasionally when connected to dvdhdmi input but only with xbox, sound never dropped out from directv hddvr via sathdmi)I resorted to attaching an optical audio cable from xbox to as720s and it fixed the problem, in reality this is not a big deal and the system is still able to deliver premium 5.1 digital audio (true 7.1 would require the hdmi, however I would not be suprised that if I were to attach the 2 extra speakers the system would then recognize the xbox and perform the handshake more easily. The other thing that is great about the as720s is the sleek black facade with blue power light, it matches the black glossy directv hd dvr perfectly and the glossy panasonic plasma looks very similar in finish, even the xbox is black to complete the look. Just needed to purchase the universal remote seperately which should be listed as a requirement for this unit anyways since the included remote is not programmable or compatible with my other devices.

One hell of an audio visual experience for under [...] (cost of a Kuro 50" plasma, alone and my panasonic is the same panel as the kuro for thousands less.) Did you get that?
Minor problems/learning curve Nov 16, 2009 I've owned the HT-AS720ST for over a year now and to be honest, I couldn't really be happier with it. I've read some of the other reviews and I've experienced similar problems and in the long run I realized that the problems were caused by my lack of experience with it, not malfunctions in the equipment. I wouldn't say anything about using this device is counter-intuitive, but it's an intricate piece of machinery with a lot of variables. Once I got it set up correctly, I haven't adjusted a thing. To be fair, I've read some reviews that complain about the remote and I personally bought a harmony 880 to run the HTS and my Samsung plasma as well as a Samsung BDP1500. In a word...flawless. I was nervous about compatability with other brands at the time of purchase. Those concerns have been put to rest by adding a dell computer to the inputs as well as changing TVs to a Panasonic for a short time.
All in all, GREAT sound and no real problems once I got it set up correctly makes this a fantastic bargain at under $400. In fact, I'm considering buying another one for the main floor living room. I just plain love it.

PS3 issues from the start Samsungs TERRIBLE Response Aug 30, 2009 Since day 1 I have had issues with this unit. Samsung claims you can use this unit as a "pass through 1080p" So I should be able to connect my PS3 to the Receiver then to my TV.
My Setup is as follows: I would connect my Cable Box and PS3 to the Receiver via HDMI In then connect the receiver to the TV via HDMI out. When switching inputs on the receiver from TV to PS3 the receiver would have a brain fart & the screen went blank. Samsung said the receiver has problems descrambling the PS3 sometimes and they said to just use HDMI for video direct PS3 to TV then use Optical for Audio ( Isnt the point of HDMI to have Audio/Video Samsung sucks for giving me that answer)
Since I bought a new tv which does not support 480i only 480p I have had to change my cable box from 480i to 480p to view non-hd stations in the settings portion of my cable box. The box keeps reverting back to 480i even if I change it to 480p in the settings menu. Comcast has no explanation but if I connect it directly to the TV instead of passing through the Samsung receiver it is fine.I am blaming Samsung on this one.... Why offer pass through HDMI if you can't use it properly...

Problems Jul 13, 2009 The unit I purchased from Electronic Expo through Amazon was out of stock. Electronic Expo offered to provide the 730 at the same price. The reviews AT THAT TIME indicated little difference, and I accepted the new model.
The 730 works for us only because we use it exclusively with TV and Blue Ray. There are several problems: 1. registering it with Samsung, 2. the FM tuner saves stations to preset only so long as you leave the unit on. Off or standby leads to the loss of settings. 3. the hdmi inputs are hard to select; the hdmi output is sometimes acts strangely. 4. The Anynet feature does not seem to work well with the 650 Samsung TV line.
For the price the unit seems a good alternative to combined cd or blue ray home theaters, but it is not really up to the next level. For my configuration the best set up involves using hdmi connectors for the cable box and blue ray directly to the TV with paired optical audio cables to the home theatre.
